Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD)
The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is one of the most consequential infrastructure projects in modern Ethiopia. Built on the Abay River in Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State, the project was developed to expand Ethiopia’s electricity-generation capacity and support the country’s long-term economic transformation.
