Bishoftu (Abusera) International Airport
The Bishoftu (Abusera) International Airport project is envisioned as a major new aviation and logistics gateway for Ethiopia, located near Bishoftu, southeast of Addis Ababa.
The project is planned as a large-scale international airport capable of accommodating substantially more passenger and cargo traffic than existing facilities. Construction officially began in January 2026, with the project reported at an estimated cost of approximately $12.5 billion. Initial development is planned around a capacity of about 60 million passengers annually, with the broader master plan reported to allow expansion toward 110 million passengers per year.
